Dinner on a Dime: Italian Nachos

Tired of the same old chips and queso? Want a good appetizer dish? Need to serve lots of people on a budget? Look no further than this yummy Italian nacho recipe, redistributed and modified from Genius Kitchen.

Ingredients: $3.50 per serving (yields 6-8 servings)

  • 12 wonton wrappers ($0.37 per serving)

  • 1 egg white ($0.12 per serving)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil ($0.25 per serving)

  • ½ teaspoon oregano ($0.10 per serving)

  • ½ pound Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled ($0.66 per serving)

  • 1 (ten ounce) container of alfredo sauce ($0.40 cents per serving)

  • ½ cup chopped tomato ($0.25 cents per serving)

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese ($0.85 per serving)

  • 1 avocado, ripe ($0.50 per serving)


  • Cut wontons into four triangles each and toss lightly in olive oil.

  • Cover a cookie sheet with a single layer of wontons. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with oregano.

  • Bake the wonton wrappers at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for six minutes or until lightly browned.

  • Meanwhile, heat the sauce, brown the Italian sausage, and drain the fat.

  • Remove the wontons from the oven. Layer the cooked wonton chips with alfredo sauce and sausage. Top with tomato, avocado, and mozzarella cheese.

  • Place the cookie sheet in the oven for five minutes to melt the cheese. Serve and enjoy!
