Chocolate Chip Banana Mug Bread

This recipe is a quick and yummy way to get your banana bread fix. Total prep time takes less than five minutes. Please use at least a 12 ounce mug to ensure the mixture does not overflow!

Ingredients: $3.03 per serving, yields one serving

  • 1 tbsp butter, melted ($0.21 per serving)

  • 1 tbsp milk ($0.20 per serving)

  • 1 Egg, beaten ($0.12 per serving)

  • 1 banana, mashed ($0.30 per serving)

  • ½ tsp Baking powder ($0.20 per serving)

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar, ($0.30 per serving)

  • ¼ cup chocolate chips ($0.80 per serving)

  • ¼ cup nuts, optional ($0.90 per serving)


  • Place butter in mug and melt in the microwave for 15-20 seconds.

  • Add milk and egg to mixture. Stir well with fork.

  • Add mashed banana and stir with fork.

  • Add flour, brown sugar, and baking powder to the mug. Mix well.

  • Gently stir in chocolate chips and nuts.

  • Cook in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes. Watch until the top of the bread rises. Cooked bread will look dry on the top.
