Student government, under the leadership of President Ridge Hester and Vice President George Stephenson, has been extremely proactive in making changes to benefit the Lyon College community this semester. Stephenson, chair of the policy committee, proposed the idea of Senior Class rings to his committee. The committee backed his idea. "It would be cool to offer this service to seniors who would be interested in purchasing a class ring," said Hester. On November 2, Senior Class representatives Jhanay Turner and Amanda Long met with the policy committee to provide their input on class rings. According to Hester, "The representatives told the committee they would begin reaching out to various ring companies to compare prices as well as other important factors to get them to campus."
Along with various other concerns, the policy committee felt it best to focus on the parking lot situation this semester. As Hester points out, "This situation is at the center of many students' conversations." In order to address the concern for parking, the committee drafted several parking proposals and met with Dean Patrick Mulick to discuss the opportunity of a new parking lot. Dean Mulick informed the policy committee that the college intends for a master planner to visit campus to explore parking possibilities and address other construction needs. In the meantime, Hester says that the Policy Committee will continue focusing on getting class rings for seniors, as well as addressing other important concerns related to the Student Handbook. Keep up the great work, SGA!
