Dinner on a Dime: Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Ingredients ($9 or more depending on brand and time of year):

  • 1 pound of fresh strawberries ($6)

  • 1 bar semi-sweet chocolate ($3)


  • Wash your strawberries and pat them dry with a soft paper towel

  • Coarsely chop your chocolate bar and put it in a microwave safe bowl

  • Put your bowl in the microwave and microwave it on HIGH for 1 minute

  • Remove after 1 minute and stir

  • Repeat heating at shorter intervals, 15 to 20 seconds, stirring in between until the chocolate is completely melts and has a smooth consistency

  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper

  • Carefully dip your strawberries into the chocolate and as you pull the berry up, twist it slightly to remove the excess chocolate

  • Place the berry on the lined cookie sheet and once all the berries are dipped, place the cookie sheet into the fridge to cool until the chocolate is firm

  • Keep the berries in the fridge until ready to serve.

Note: This recipe can be made with any type of fruit. If you’re feeling adventurous then you can even dip bacon into the chocolate. However, if you do dip bacon into the chocolate make sure it is crispy and clean of all grease.
